Dear Friends with Heart:

Imagine that Unitarian Universalism matters here in the Heartland. Imagine that we have the resources to bring in top-notch presenters to help congregations learn more about governance, membership, worship, religious education. Imagine that we could help subsidize ministers to work with new and emerging congregations. Imagine that we can help congregations grow and touch and impact lives of countless people.

That�s what I imagine every day as I wake up; that we here in the Heartland District are spreading the good news of Unitarian Universalism, that our congregations are thriving and vibrant, that we are involved in helping bend the arc of justice toward the earth. I know it�s happening in some parts of our District already, but I imagine what it would be like if every congregation was able to come more and more fully into their own - becoming the congregations they want to be.

I believe we can do it. But we can�t do it as well without your help.

Right now, our congregations provide just about 40% of the operating capital for the Heartland District to help you be all you want to be. The rest of the income comes from grants from the UUA, the Midwest UU Conference (MUUC), donations from people like you, and event registrations. With the financial times tougher out there in the past few years, congregational giving has fallen off a bit, as has the grants we receive from MUUC. This year, your support is needed more than ever before.

Imagine these possibilities in the year(s) to come:

~ ministers on loan to congregations getting ready for professional leadership
~ more workshops on vital worship, growth, governance
~ scholarships to help your members - adult & youth - attend our MidWest UU Leadership School
~ cluster trainings, and gatherings for those who share roles in the congregation

All of this can happen when you make a contribution to �Friends with Heart�. We�re not looking for thousands - that money should go to your local congregation. We�re looking for your $25, $75, $100, or $500 gift. (If you do have thousands you�d like to contribute, be in touch: we�re always looking for long-term underwriters of our special projects, innovative work, and ongoing programs!) We�re looking for you - our whole Heartland UU community - to help us continue the work of strengthening your congregation; helping you do what you want to do, but better; working for social justice in our communities; and spreading the good news of Unitarian Universalism to all who need our message; to all who seek a place of refuge, respite, inspiration and commitment.
